Stevie Wonder quit MoTown in 1970 and recorded two albums by himself. Berry Gordy was shocked to discover this. Stevie Wonder and Berry Gord accepted Stevie Wonder's request of more freedom and full creative control as well as rights to all of his songs. Stevie Wonder signed a 13 million dollars MoTown Records contract in 1972. Stevie Wonder received a higher royalty as well as full creative control. He also enjoyed the right to his own music, one of the few artists who were able to get at that time. The agreement allowed Wonder's music to now talk about controversial issues like poverty, war, drugs, and politics.Stevie is well-known for writing and performing songs about politics, including You Haven't Done Anything, which was a political attack at Richard Nixon. In 1972, he came out with Music Of My Mind, his first album in the brand new MoTown agreement. In late 1972 Stevie Wonder released an album that is still regarded as a significant piece of music, titled Talking Book. It featured Superstition as the top track.
