After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, famous artists started to work with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together for the track MIA MIA (2018) and Madonna teamed up with Maluma on Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. As early as 2020, some reggaeton musicians were unhappy with the way it was moving towards mainstream. Rauw Alajandro is a participant in a fresh generation that aims to change the course.
